The Louisiana button project is a cooperative venture of a group with an abiding interest in Louisiana's rich military history. The first two buttons we have reproduced are copies of originals in our member's private collections. It is also not a coincidence that the coat and cuff button are from altogether different dies. The decision to follow that pattern was based on excavated buttons from campsites of the Third Louisiana Regiment in Benton County, Arkansas, and the only Louisiana regiment serving in that region. Of course these same buttons were used by many other Louisiana regiments in the Civil War and excavated examples are widely found in all theaters of the war. As our group recoups the initial investment, we are committed in bringing you some new and exciting reproductions. The best is yet to come. Laissez le bon temps rouler! (Let the good times roll!)
